How to sew a skirt from a T-shirt

Let’s try to make a skirt from a T-shirt! I’ve often come across master classes on skirts made from T-shirts, but I’ve never had such a burning desire to acquire such a skirt. I came across an amazing English-language blog, “tattooed Martha,” where, among other interesting posts, there was a detailed description of sewing a skirt from a large knitted T-shirt. I couldn’t pass by and I want to share the translation of the master class with you.

We will need:

  • A large T-shirt, preferably made of thick knitwear.
  • Elastic band for the belt.
  • Sewing thread to match the color of the T-shirt.
  • Pin.
  • Chalk, soap or pencil.
  • Meter tape.
  • Scissors.

Martha asks not to forget that the inscriptions and drawings on the T-shirt will eventually end up in the buttocks or crotch area, so be careful. Some phrases may provoke others to make inappropriate insinuations…

Start by taking measurements from your hips, add 1 inch (2.5 cm) to the resulting figure, divide the amount in half and mark the resulting length on the T-shirt. Draw a dotted line along the entire length of the T-shirt, as shown in the photo. How to sew a skirt from a T-shirt Cut two fabrics along the dotted line and turn them inside out. skirt fabrics Secure the fabrics with pins. basting side seam Sew on both sides. It’s good if it is possible to process it with an overlock, but in principle, it wears well even with a raw seam. shov Side seam Turn the top edge of the skirt inside out to form a belt . Sew, leaving an opening for the elastic. Measure your hips at the level you want to wear the skirt and cut the elastic to that size.

In my opinion, this is a stylish version of a knitted skirt for a proportional figure, and the simplest. make a skirt from a T-shirt
