Crafts for people made from natural materials: fairies, elves, gnomes
The natural material is ideal for the creative development of children and a relaxing hobby for adults. Today I have put together several master classes on creating fairy-tale crafts - little people from natural materials: elves, fairies, gnomes.
A few words about the preparation of natural material: in addition to cones and acorns, be sure to preserve flower petals, inflorescences and leaves, which can be coated with paraffin and, thereby, achieve excellent preservation of their color and impart rigidity.
Collect various ears of grain, burrs, rose hips, thin twigs, coir from coconuts, neatly scrubbed citrus peels, willow twigs, winter berries, physalis, loofah, feathers and fluff, young green cones, anise stars, sunflower seeds, peanut and pistachio peels, chestnuts and their peels, tree bark, peach pits, tree seeds, fern leaves, moss, cinnamon sticks, beans and other grains, pebbles and shells. This list is the first thing that came to mind and there are no restrictions (except, perhaps, the area in which you collect all this).
Fairies made of natural material
1. Garden Fairy
To create garden fairies you will need pine cones, petals of physalis or other large flowers, twigs, acorns and leaves, a permanent marker, a glue gun or other transparent polymer glue.
- Use a permanent marker to draw a face for the fairy on the acorn.
- Glue the petals and head onto the cone.
- Attach the branches-hands.
- Add a hairstyle to your fairy.
- Glue the leaf wings.
- Glue the petal skirt.

2. Pine cone fairy
A simple craft made from a fir cone (here - Douglas tree) and oak leaves.
We will need: a spruce or pine cone, an acorn stalk or a whole fruit, a wooden bead for the head, glue (in this case PVA), oak leaves, felt, felting wool for the hair, a wire brush and beads for the hands. It is not necessary to use a drill; the head can be placed on hot glue.
This master class is just the basis for your imagination. A fairy hat can be made from a nut shell, dried inflorescence or chestnut skin. The hair can even be made of moss or cotton wool, and the wings can be made of feathers.
- Drill a hole in the cone with a thin drill and place it on a bamboo skewer (rod), lubricate it with glue.
- Place the bead on the rod. The author gives an excellent idea - so that you don’t have to hold the parts to be glued for several minutes, put a rubber band on them.
- Next, prepare the fairy’s hair, hat and hands.
- Make holes in the hat for a ribbon if you are hanging the craft.
- Glue the hair, attach the wire handles.
- When all the parts have dried well, you can glue the hat.
- Apply glue in place of the wings, press the leaves and wait until dry.
- You can secure the wings with a heart-shaped piece of felt.

3. Fairy with felt wings
The highlight of this craft is the head made of tights and cotton wool. To create a cute butterfly fairy we will need: glue, felt scraps, hair yarn, nylon tights, acorns and cones.
- Creating a fairy head looks like a difficult task, but it is not. The advantage of a “tights” head over a wooden bead or other natural material is that it is much easier to glue it to the cone.
- Hair and beret: glue several strands of yarn to the fairy’s head, apply a little glue to the inside of the acorn cap and glue to the hairstyle.
- Choose a suitable cone and glue the head to it. Cut out the wings from felt and insert them between the petals of the cone.
4. Forest fairy with wings made of cotton wool (asclepius)
To create a real forest dweller from this master class, you need pods of asclepius or cottonweed, glue, a pine cone, an acorn and a decorative wire brush for hands.
- Secure the wire to the top of the pine cone by simply wrapping it around it.
- Glue the acorn head.
- Glue the asclepius pods to make wings. The simplest forest fairy is ready!
Angel made of natural material
Such an angel made from a pine cone can become a decoration for the New Year tree.
To make it we will need: an acorn, asclepius pods, decorative wire, a cord for a halo, a glue gun. The angel uses a golf ball stand as a trumpet.
- Glue the acorn to the pine cone.
- Fasten the wire-hands.
- Connect the ends of the halo cord and glue it to the acorn angel head. Use a toothpick to press the halo where the glue is applied if it is hard to reach.
- Glue the wings.
- Wrap the angel’s hands around the pipe. You can add a drop of glue for strength.
- If desired, the angel can be spray painted.
Elf man made from natural materials
This master class uses ceramics for elf heads, but you don’t have to look for something similar in stores - take wooden beads or use the brilliant idea of a “nylon” head from the master class above.
You will need: felt, glue gun, pompoms, decorative wire, material for the elf’s head if desired.
- Make the head in any convenient way: using a bead, nylon, acorn, salt dough, or using the method suggested by the author - from gypsum ceramics.
- Give the little person personality by drawing a face.
- Cut out a triangle for the cap from felt, prepare a thread for hanging.
- Glue a hanging cord to the top of the triangle and roll the scrap into a cone. Glue the pompom. If necessary, cut the cap to the desired size.
- Glue the hat to the elf’s head.
- Glue the head to the bump.
- Cut a piece for the scarf and carefully tie it to the little man.
- Attach wire arms and legs. Cut out mittens and boots from felt and glue them to the wires.
Spice Fairy
An original idea for those who did not stock up on natural materials this fall. You can create a fairy-tale man using clothespins and spices - cinnamon, laurel leaves, anise stars, corn stover.
