3 owls made from natural materials + 18 ideas

Autumn is the most fertile time for doing crafts with children. Crafts made from natural materials develop fine motor skills and imagination, can keep fidgets busy for a long time, and help them learn about the world of plants. But first of all, joint creativity with kids strengthens your friendship and mutual understanding, teaches perseverance and patience not only to children, but also to us.

Crafts with children

The topic of crafts made from natural materials is worthy, if not of a website of the same name, then at least of a separate section, so I will try to supplement the section with new ideas as often as possible. Today we will make an owl from natural material.

Owls made of pine cones in the form of a panel

This owl is made from natural materials and is made in the form of a panel. For the master class there is a step-by-step video on how to make an owl from the author, very detailed. Later I will describe in detail the preparation of natural materials for work, but now in a nutshell: the pine cones need to be baked in an oven heated to 200 degrees for no longer than 40 minutes.

Preparing cones

Warm up very small cones for about 20 minutes to prevent them from burning. It is necessary to do this, since a mass of living and dangerous creatures are hiding in the cone - from ticks to spiders. Owl from cones

We will need:

  • Pine cones;
  • scissors;
  • glue gun (preferably), you can use polymer universal glue of the Dragon type;
  • cardboard;
  • colored paper or felt;
  • twigs, twine, feathers, beads, buttons.

You can get creative with the eyes, tail and wings of an owl.

2 owls made of pine cones with felt eyes

Pinecone owl

The second version of the owl made from cones is less labor-intensive, but still requires the help of adults.

We will need:

  • Pine cone;
  • felt of different colors;
  • scissors;
  • glue gun;
  • stapler (you can get by with a needle and thread).

Choose several colors of felt or crochet circles of different sizes and colors. The size of the blanks for the eyes will depend on the size of the cone. Another master class below.

Owl made of acorns, cones and leaves

Another cute owl made from acorns, pine cones and leaves. You will have to remove a couple of the woody petals of the pine cone to get the eyes to fit properly.

We will need:

  • Two acorn caps;
  • two tree leaves;
  • glue gun or polymer transparent glue;
  • ready-made eyes or buttons, beads;
  • for the paws and beak, pieces of felt, leather, cardboard;
  • pine cone;
  • a circle of thick cardboard for a stable bottom of the cone.

Owl made of acorns and cones

  1. First of all, remove a couple of petals from the pine cone so that the eyes stick well and do not seem redundant on your owl))).
  2. Place the pine cone on a piece of cardboard using thick glue. Hot glue is ideal for this as it works very quickly, but clear polymer glue from a bottle will also work (it will take a whole day to dry, so you will have to make the workpiece in advance). A plasticine base will also work in extreme cases.
  3. Separate the acorn from the cap, glue it into the space freed from the petals, and finish with the eyes: insert a button or bead, a colored circle, or ready-made eyes from the store into the acorn cap.
  4. Cut out the beak and legs and attach. It is advisable to soak the leaves for the wings in paraffin, and I will definitely write about this in detail, but for now: melt the candle, do not overheat the paraffin! Dip a piece of paper ironed between sheets of paper into paraffin on both sides and let it drain. Place on a clean white sheet to cool.
  5. Glue the leaves to the pine cone carefully, since paraffin is fragile. The owl made from cones is ready
