Sew a new bag from an old one in 3 hours
I had a lime-colored penny handbag lying around for a long time, waiting for my inspiration. I didn’t want to bother with the pattern, so I decided to sew a new bag from an old bag using its own details, using them as a sealing lining.
Among the scraps were found the remains of plaid trousers, the waist part of which was used for the front of the bag. The harness handle has been replaced by the harness of another retired bag, and the same can be said for the zippers on both the backpack and trousers. Complete recycling.
Progress:
- To begin with, I carefully ripped open the bag, remembering how the parts were stitched.
- Pants
- Based on the details, I cut out flaps from the trousers, leaving small allowances taking into account the flowability of the fabric. There was a pocket with a zipper on the front side, I decided to keep it, plus there was a ready-made trouser pocket, so now the bag has two functional compartments, in addition to the main one.
- I stitched each detail from the former front, in the front part, on the strap and on the top flap I made a decorative stitch.
- I connected the parts on a sewing machine: I connected the zipper to the front and back walls, stitched the bottom (aka the side), inserted the strap.
- It took about 3 hours to do everything. Crooked and askew, well, just the way I like it))).

The bag is quite roomy for its purpose - it can carry a bag, a wallet, a case for glasses, napkins and keys. I will continue to remake my favorite bags using the same scheme - simple, fast and real recycling of things.
