Podium bed. 33 ideas in photos
If you have a one-room apartment with a niche (alcove), then this article is for you. We decided that a full bed is more important than a dressing room, so we are planning to design a podium bed for a double mattress with storage space. Our niche dimensions are: 2.40 x 2.50.
It turned out that you can even assemble a podium bed from IKEA bookshelves and leftover laminate flooring. The filling can be from any leftover cuts or with purchased slats, because we will only see the facades on one side. There is a wide variety of fittings on sale for closing and opening doors, lifting mechanisms and drawer guides, so there shouldn’t be any problems with the functional part. The only unpleasant moment is that you won’t be able to save money here; you need to buy good fittings right away so that the podium bed will serve you for decades without major repairs. Dismantling such a structure is a labor-intensive task.
The storage spaces in the podium are huge, and if you approach the ergonomics wisely, using such a bed will be quite comfortable. Changing bed linen can be a more troublesome task, but given the undeniable advantages of this design, I am willing to spend a little more time on it. A part of the bed blocked by a wall can become a “storage room” for rarely used items.

There weren’t that many good inspiring ideas on how to equip a niche. But the variety of facades and materials with which the craftsmen worked is encouraging. It’s nice that when working on such non-standard tasks, you can express yourself creatively, without being limited by the choice in stores.
